What is Flyash & where does it come from?
Fly ash is the naturally occurring products from the process of coal combustion. Around 40% of the total Electricity generated in the world is produced by burning coal. In this process, large quantum of Flyash comes into existence. It is a non combustible mineral. All thermal based power stations produce 4 kinds of ash- Fly ash, Bottom ash, Pond ash, and Mound ash.
Flyash is one of the conventional materials used in construction. Fly ash generated from volcanoes was used extensively in construction of roman structures. A classic example of durability achieved by use of ash is Colosseum which exists even today.
